Germany’s latest energy unicorn 1KOMMA5° is one of the fastest growing energy companies in recent years, growing its revenues by over 2000% from 2021 until 2023. The start-up aims to develop a global one-stop-shop for private and commercial customers, who want to use photovoltaic, air conditioning, heat pumps and electric charging at home as one integrated hardware and software solution.

Kozco Energy Group was founded in 2015 via a merger of Wayne Faranda’s renewable and electrical systems business and Danny Mudronja’s air conditioning company. Since then thousands of customers in and around Adelaide converted to sustainable energy solutions like PV systems, batteries, heat pumps, air conditioning, and EV charging wallboxes. By joining 1KOMMA5° group, Kozco can bring the start-ups entire product and software portfolio including the ‘Heartbeat’ energy management system to millions of customers in Australia.

The Australian market has focussed mainly on adding solar to reduce energy and on feed in tariffs which continually change and have now reduced due to the solar saturation. 1KOMMA5°’s philosophy is to control the energy use in the home and business by moving energy use to lower cost times, by controlling energy usage by using renewable power when available, and to design the holistic energy solution.

Improving energy control will greatly assist the renewable energy target of 82% by 2030.Federal, State and local governments support the renewable transition by offering incentives improving return on investment.

1KOMMA5° now extends its reach in Germany, Sweden, Finland, Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Australia. The start-up plans to further expand to also serve commercial and multi portfolio real estate owners in becoming less dependent on fossil energy.
